Muncie City Council Approves Ordinances on Alley Vacation and Zoning Changes

Muncie City Council convened on May 5, 2025, to address key community matters, including appointments to boards and the adoption of significant ordinances.

One of the notable discussions involved the Ethics Commission, where council members acknowledged the resignation of WC Edwards due to health issues. The council expressed their well-wishes for his recovery and emphasized the need to find a replacement who reflects the community's diversity. Council members are encouraged to propose candidates for the position, which requires the appointee to be a Democrat, by the next meeting in June.

In addition to board appointments, the council moved forward with two ordinances. The first, Ordinance 13-25, was adopted to vacate a portion of a public alley at 2619 West Ethel Avenue. This decision was supported by local attorney David Karnes, representing property owner Robert Huddleston, who indicated that the area is currently unused and overgrown.

The second ordinance, Ordinance 15-25, aims to amend the City of Muncie's comprehensive zoning ordinance, changing the designation of a property at 3300 North Milton Street from a residential to a variety business zone. This change is expected to facilitate new business opportunities in the area.
