Seguin ISD is set to enhance its support for students with the approval of a comprehensive service plan during the recent board meeting held on July 22, 2025. The plan, presented by Communities in Schools (CIS), outlines a robust framework aimed at addressing the diverse needs of students across the district.

Key to the initiative is the commitment to serve 653 students with intensive, individualized services funded through the Texas Education Agency. This funding is crucial for meeting the district's accountability requirements while ensuring that no child is turned away, regardless of the funding limits. In addition to these core services, CIS reported that they have successfully provided support to an additional 2,155 students through various preventative measures, emphasizing a proactive approach to student well-being.

The meeting highlighted the significant focus on mental and behavioral health, which accounted for 49% of the services provided. CIS staff work closely with school administrators to identify and address pressing issues such as mental health, academic support, and family engagement. The organization also offers transportation assistance to students, ensuring that logistical barriers do not hinder their access to education.

Crisis intervention services were a critical topic, with CIS detailing their response to 72 crisis situations over the past year, including instances of suicidal ideation. The organization has established a strong protocol for mobilizing crisis teams to provide immediate support, demonstrating their commitment to student safety and mental health.

The board expressed gratitude for the effective collaboration between CIS and school staff, noting that the cost of services—approximately $58 per student annually—underscores the value of the support provided.
