Commissioners noted that the lack of available programs, especially for girls, has created additional challenges. An example was cited of a girl who had been committed in March and was still awaiting placement four months later, ultimately being transferred to a facility in Miami due to space constraints.

The workshop underscored the interconnectedness of legislative changes and rising juvenile crime rates, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions to address the growing pressures on the juvenile justice system in Marion County.
