The budget discussions also touched on the significant costs associated with fire department overtime, which stands at $8.3 million. Council members expressed concerns about maintaining a minimum staffing level of four firefighters per engine while seeking ways to reduce overtime expenses. Chief Baker suggested that options for budget cuts could include temporarily closing fire stations or reducing their operational hours, a move he believes would be less effective than maintaining full staffing at all stations.
