Deputy Chiefs Explore AI Solutions for Operations Amid HR Director Transition

The recent meeting of the San Francisco City Council highlighted several key initiatives aimed at improving city operations and addressing staffing needs. A significant focus was placed on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within city departments. The deputy chiefs were tasked with exploring how AI can enhance various operations, including payroll, training, and data collection. This initiative aims to educate city employees on effectively utilizing AI tools to improve efficiency.

Another critical topic discussed was the ongoing search for a new human resources director following the retirement of Hisuzu Bouchong, who served the city for 33 years. The hiring process has attracted considerable interest, with 154 applicants initially considered. A hiring consultant has narrowed this pool to 24 candidates, with plans to conduct final interviews with 7 to 10 selected individuals.

Additionally, the council addressed the findings of a seismic report prepared by the Department of Public Works (DPW) in 2017. The report evaluated the condition of the city's fire stations, particularly focusing on the need for potential rebuilding or retrofitting. The council is currently in the early stages of planning for the 2028 Easter bond, which will include discussions on the future of these fire stations, particularly Station 2, built in 1993.
