Miami-Dade County is making significant strides in enhancing its public transportation infrastructure, with a focus on transit-oriented development (TOD) along the Metro Rail. During a recent meeting of the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust, officials discussed the progress of various TOD projects, emphasizing their potential to reshape the community and reduce reliance on cars.

One of the standout topics was the approval of a grant application aimed at extending the Design District corridor. This strategic move not only secures funding for the extension but also opens doors for future grants for other sections of the transit system. Jordan Shane, manager of joint development and real estate coordination for the Department of Transportation and Public Works, presented an overview of the current and future TOD projects. Currently, there are 16 projects adjacent to the Metro Rail, with six completed, eight in progress, and two planned. Notable developments include the Vox phase 2 in South Miami, which is set to provide student housing, and the North Side Transit Village, which is nearing completion and will offer affordable housing units.
