The Miami-Dade County Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust convened on July 23, 2025, to discuss ongoing and upcoming transportation projects within the county. The meeting focused on two significant projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and infrastructure.

The first project discussed involves improvements estimated at approximately $10.7 million. This project aims to enhance connectivity from 121st Avenue, near Dolphin Park and Ride, to 137th Avenue. Key features of this project include the construction of a new trail along Northwest 12th Street, drainage enhancements, milling and resurfacing of the road, new signage, pavement markings, and the installation of a signalized crossing. The design phase for this project is nearing completion, with expectations for contractor procurement to follow within 9 to 12 months.

The second project, which is adjacent to the first, has an estimated cost of $3.7 million. This project is still in the early stages, with the designer recently procured and a kickoff meeting scheduled in two weeks. The design is anticipated to be completed by May 2026. Discussions included the possibility of using the same contractors for both projects due to their proximity, although the timelines differ significantly.

Funding for the first project is structured with 50% coming from the People’s Transportation Plan (PTP) and the remainder supported by a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). For the second project, PTP funds are currently allocated only for the design phase, with a total of $583,000 designated for this purpose.

The meeting concluded with a brief introduction of the next agenda item, which focused on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) studies for North South Beach, led by Lisa Colemanares from the Department of Transportation and Public Works. The discussions highlighted the county's commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and connectivity for its residents.
