San Antonio's Planning Commission has approved a significant project aimed at revitalizing a commercial space on Burnett Street, which will soon house a coffee shop and professional office rentals. The proposal, presented by Andrea and Randy Wormley of Renlund Investment Group, focuses on transforming the existing building into a multi-use facility that will serve both the community and local businesses.

The Wormleys plan to allocate 60% of the space for a coffee shop specializing in iced and hot coffees, while the remaining 40% will be dedicated to office rentals. This initiative is not just about profit; the Wormleys have committed to using a portion of the coffee shop's earnings to support local charitable organizations, including partnerships with Antioch and the National Council of Women.

Targeting college students from nearby institutions such as St. Philip's College and the University of the Incarnate Word, the coffee shop aims to create a welcoming environment for young professionals and community members. The Wormleys also plan to host various outreach activities, including entrepreneurship training, art nights, and support services for veterans and the homeless.

During the meeting, commissioners discussed the recent changes to the Eastside land use plan, which was adopted in June 2024. While there was no zoning change, the Wormleys emphasized that the property has been commercial for some time, and their renovations will include necessary updates to the parking lot and interior spaces to ensure safety and functionality.

The project has garnered support from local residents and business owners, with several signatures collected in favor of the initiative. The Wormleys expressed their commitment to fostering community connections, particularly between younger and older generations, through planned activities like game nights for the elderly.
