During a recent budget work session, Greenbelt City Council members gathered to discuss the future of the Green Ridge House, a senior living facility owned by the city. Mayor Emmett Jordan emphasized the importance of the 101-unit apartment building, which has been operational since 1979. Approximately 75% of its revenue is derived from funding provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), with the remainder coming from resident payments.
The mayor highlighted that no city funds are allocated to the Green Ridge House, as it operates as a separate enterprise managed by a dedicated company. This structure allows the city to focus on ensuring that residents receive adequate services and support. Jordan expressed a commitment to the well-being of seniors in the community, stating, "We want to make sure that you are comfortable and that the services that you are provided are more than adequate."
This meeting marked the first in-person session at the Green Ridge House since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing council members to reconnect with residents and discuss their needs directly. The council plans to continue these discussions, ensuring that the facility remains a vital resource for the community's senior population.
