The Lakeway City Council meeting on July 21, 2025, celebrated significant milestones for local law enforcement, highlighting the community's commitment to public safety and recognition of dedicated service.

The evening began with a badge pinning ceremony for four officers, marking a proud moment for the Lakeway Police Department. Newly graduated officers Andrew Anderson and John Myrick were honored after completing eight months of rigorous training at the Capacog Basic Academy. Both officers bring unique backgrounds to their roles; Anderson, a former Army National Guard intelligence analyst, and Myrick, a US Navy veteran and accomplished rock climbing coach, are set to undergo further field training before serving the community independently.

In addition to the new officers, the council recognized Sergeant Nate Stallings and Sergeant Rudy Moreno for their leadership and contributions to the department. Stallings, a Marine Corps veteran with nine years of law enforcement experience, is noted for his mentoring abilities, while Moreno has dedicated his entire career to the Lakeway Police Department, focusing on firearms and active shooter training.

The meeting also acknowledged the retirement of reserve officer Al Purcell, who has served the Lakeway community for over 29 years. Although unable to attend due to an injury, Purcell's legacy as a dedicated officer and community volunteer was celebrated, with plans for a formal proclamation in his honor.

Further recognition was given to Detective Matt Runnels, named Employee of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2025. Runnels was commended for his professionalism, problem-solving skills, and resilience in the face of challenges, reflecting the high standards upheld by the Lakeway Police Department.

These ceremonies not only honor individual achievements but also reinforce the city council's support for its law enforcement officers, fostering a strong sense of community and commitment to public safety in Lakeway.
