Code Enforcement Officer Ricky Denny reported that the structure has been deemed substandard and poses a public safety hazard. Despite multiple notifications sent to the property owner since August 2023, there has been no response or action taken to remedy the situation. The commission unanimously approved a motion to proceed with the demolition of the dilapidated structure, emphasizing the need to protect community health and safety.

The commission followed established procedures, including public notifications and hearings, to ensure compliance with state laws. The demolition order will be enforced after a mandatory waiting period of 30 days, during which the city will assess the costs and place a lien on the property, as it is not currently homesteaded.

In addition to the West Ward property, the commission noted progress on other properties. Improvements have been made on the East Ward property, while significant advancements were reported for a property on Trinity Street, which is nearing completion of its rehabilitation.

Looking ahead, the commission's next meeting is scheduled for August 18, 2025. While no additional agenda items are currently planned, the commission remains vigilant in monitoring substandard structures and ensuring compliance with building standards to enhance community safety and welfare.
