The Municipality of Anchorage is set to enhance its electrical infrastructure with the upcoming battery energy storage system, a project supported by a federal grant. During the recent Infrastructure, Enterprise and Utility Oversight Committee meeting, officials announced that the bidding process for the battery installation is currently underway. They expect to finalize the contract by late July or early August, with hopes to order the necessary equipment and begin preliminary site work this fall.

In addition to the battery project, the municipality is also in the final stages of securing an energy services contract. This contract will provide essential engineering and professional services to aid in comprehensive energy system planning. The initiative is backed by a $2 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) aimed at enhancing clean port operations.
