The Lafayette Board of Works and Safety made significant strides in local infrastructure during their June 17 meeting, approving a crucial memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Tippecanoe County for improvements to We All School Road. This agreement will allocate $600,000 from the city to enhance road safety and widen the roadway, addressing community needs following a recent sewer project.
The board discussed the MOU, highlighting that the county will manage the road improvements with their own contractor, a shift from the city’s original plans. This decision came after discussions about the necessity of road restoration and safety enhancements, which the county deemed essential. Board members expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that it would not only fulfill the city’s utility expansion goals but also provide a safer road for residents.
In addition to the MOU, the board declared several city vehicles as surplus, including trash trucks, to facilitate upcoming purchases. They also approved the scrapping of outdated equipment, including salt spreaders and a snowplow, ensuring efficient fleet management.
The meeting concluded with the approval of claims totaling over $5.9 million, reflecting the board's ongoing commitment to fiscal responsibility and infrastructure development. As the city moves forward with these projects, residents can expect improvements that enhance both safety and service in the community.
