Councilwoman Mary Zendejas took center stage at a recent Long Beach government meeting, announcing the launch of the “Long Beach Neighbors Supporting Neighbors” Fund. This emergency fund aims to provide crucial support to vulnerable immigrant communities facing challenges due to recent ICE enforcement actions.

Zendejas, a staunch advocate for immigrant rights, expressed her solidarity with those affected by these raids, highlighting the fear that has forced many to stay home and impacted their quality of life. “This fund will provide vital relief, including rental assistance, food distributions, income replacement, and legal support to those targeted by this administration,” she stated passionately.

The councilwoman emphasized her commitment to defending the rights of undocumented residents, urging unity within the community. “We must continue to protect each other and look out for one another,” she declared, reinforcing the importance of solidarity in Long Beach.

Monet Dale, a community investment engagement officer with the California Community Foundation, also spoke at the meeting, acknowledging the ongoing fear faced by immigrant families in the region.
