Spokane Valley officials are moving forward with plans to secure funding for an upcoming event in 2027, with discussions centered around utilizing Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) funds. During a recent meeting, stakeholders emphasized the urgency of committing between $15,000 to $20,000 to attract the event, which could draw significant attendance to the area.

The conversation highlighted the need for a timely decision, as the event organizers are looking for assurances before their board meeting in December. Officials noted that while the city typically follows a one-time process for Local Tourism Advisory Committee (LTAC) funding, there are alternative methods to access TPA funds that could streamline the process.

Participants discussed the possibility of bypassing the more complex LTAC procedures by directly utilizing TPA resources, which have been successfully employed in other counties for similar purposes. This approach could allow for quicker access to funds, ensuring Spokane Valley remains competitive in attracting events.

To facilitate this, officials plan to coordinate with Visit Spokane, which is already engaged with the event organizers. A presentation is expected in August to formally request the funding, adhering to the city’s procurement guidelines. The goal is to finalize arrangements that will not only support the event but also enhance Spokane Valley's reputation as a desirable destination for large gatherings.

As discussions progress, city officials are optimistic about securing the necessary funding and look forward to the potential economic benefits the event could bring to the community.
