Residents of Lexington are invited to engage with their community through a new initiative aimed at enhancing local green spaces and improving street safety. Council Member Hannah Legree announced an exciting pilot project during the recent Planning Commission Work Session, set to launch in early June.

The project will focus on East High Street between Woodland and Rose, addressing long-standing concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety. The plan includes the addition of over 30 new parking spots, a loading zone, and a protected bike lane, all designed to calm traffic and create a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists. These changes are a direct response to feedback from local residents, emphasizing the city's commitment to community-driven solutions.

Installation of the new features is scheduled to begin on June 2, weather permitting. Legree expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including the complete streets coordinator and neighborhood champions, who have played a crucial role in bringing this initiative to fruition.
