The Fauquier County Planning Commission held a work session on July 17, 2025, focusing on several key topics, including residential developments, water quality concerns, and upcoming public hearings.

One significant discussion centered on a previously denied application for age-restricted townhouses on the South Side of Mint Brook. The Board of Supervisors rejected the proposal, which included 27 to 28 townhouses, and established a one-year waiting period before the developers can reapply. The property, owned by Mr. Weaver, is expected to see a new application in June 2026. Additionally, there is a pending rezoning application for single-family detached homes on Oakshade Road, which is anticipated to be reviewed by the commission this fall.

Water quality issues in the Remington area were also a major concern raised during the meeting. Residents expressed worries about water quality, specifically regarding radon and arsenic levels. Although the commission acknowledged that addressing these issues is not within their direct responsibility, they indicated that they have informed the Fauquier County Water and Sanitation Authority about the residents' concerns. A previous special exception for the Meadows of Remington, which includes an above-ground water treatment system, is still in progress, with plans to bring additional wells online.

In other developments, the Board of Supervisors decided to postpone the public hearing for the Giga Land project until September. They also authorized scheduling a public hearing for a siting agreement related to the Dominion Battery Storage Project, which had been put on hold. Other approvals included a special permit for Luis Pasofino Farm and a special exception for the Georgia Brown property.

Looking ahead, the commission will consider several applications in the coming months, including an agricultural and forest addition in the Marshall District and amendments related to previously approved projects.

The meeting underscored the ongoing dialogue between the commission, developers, and community members, particularly regarding the balance between development and environmental concerns in Fauquier County.
