The proposed allocations include $1.15 million for the Gene Friend Recreation Center, which is set to be replaced with a new 25,000 square foot facility featuring a gymnasium, exercise area, and outdoor amenities. This funding will help cover unexpected construction costs and ensure the center opens in time for the new school year in 2026.

Another $1.15 million is earmarked for Portsmouth Square in Chinatown, which will undergo a complete renovation. The plans include a flexible outdoor event space, a new community clubhouse, and improved playground facilities. The final allocation of $500,000 will support the transformation of Embarcadero Plaza and parts of Sue Bierman Park into a lively five-acre waterfront park. This project will introduce multipurpose spaces for gatherings, landscaped pathways, and improved streetscapes, contributing to the revitalization of the Financial District and Northeast Waterfront.

During the public comment period, advocates for skateboarding facilities voiced their support for including dedicated spaces in the new park designs.
