During the recent ReThink Folly Road Steering Committee meeting on July 16, 2025, a significant discussion emerged regarding the safety of school routes for children on James Island. Committee members highlighted the need for improved infrastructure to support walking and biking to school, particularly for students living within a mile of the school.

Currently, there are about 30 students who walk to school, but the exact number of those living within a mile remains unclear. Committee members expressed a desire to gather more data on this demographic to better understand the potential for increasing the number of students who could safely walk or bike to school.
