The Mercer Island Arts Council welcomed two new members during its regular meeting on July 16, 2025, marking a significant step in enhancing community engagement through the arts. Recreation Supervisor and staff liaison Katie Herzog presided over the meeting, which was held both in-person at the Mercer Island Community and Events Center and virtually via Zoom.

New members Pam Rock and Britta Eckley expressed their enthusiasm for joining the council. Rock, a long-time resident of Mercer Island, emphasized the importance of the arts in fostering a vibrant community, drawing from her previous experience on the council. Eckley, who recently returned to Washington after living abroad, highlighted her background in arts and education, as well as her current work in neuro arts. She aims to promote health and well-being through artistic engagement in the community.

The meeting also addressed the current vacancy of the chair and vice chair positions, which will be filled later in the evening. This transition is expected to bring fresh leadership to the council as it continues to plan and implement arts initiatives.

No public appearances were scheduled for this meeting, allowing the council to focus on internal discussions and planning. The recorded session will be available on the city’s YouTube channel, ensuring that community members can stay informed about the council's activities and decisions.

As the Arts Council moves forward with its agenda, the contributions of the new members are anticipated to enrich the cultural landscape of Mercer Island, fostering greater community involvement in the arts.
