Springfield Mayor Proclaims October Highway Hikers Motorcycle Club Day to Honor Charity Work

The Springfield City Commission meeting on July 15, 2025, highlighted the significant contributions of the Highway Hikers Motorcycle Club, as Mayor Rob Ryu proclaimed October as "Highway Hikers Motorcycle Club Day" in Springfield. This recognition celebrates the club's longstanding commitment to supporting local children in need through their annual toy run, a cherished tradition since 1978.

The proclamation emphasized the club's impact, noting that the toy run has brought together hundreds of riders and community supporters to collect and distribute toys, ensuring joy and dignity for countless families during the holiday season. Mayor Ryu praised the Highway Hikers for their dedication and grassroots efforts, stating, "Their commitment to our children and our community represents the very best of Springfield and Clark County."

Kyle Darren, a representative of the Highway Hikers, expressed gratitude for the recognition, reflecting on the club's history and its mission to ensure that no child in Clark County wakes up without Christmas. He shared that the toy run has raised millions of dollars over the years, with participation growing from 17 riders in its inaugural year to as many as 4,000 motorcycles today.

Commissioners also voiced their appreciation, highlighting the legendary status of the toy run and its importance in the community. Former Superintendent of Springfield City Schools, Dr. Estero, acknowledged the critical need for support among local families, reinforcing the club's vital role in addressing these challenges.

As the meeting concluded, the Highway Hikers were invited for a group photo, symbolizing the community's recognition of their unwavering service and commitment to making a difference in the lives of children across Clark County.
