The City of Wasco is making significant strides in its Fiber to the Home project, which aims to enhance internet connectivity for residents. During the recent City Council meeting on July 15, 2025, officials provided an update on the progress of this ambitious initiative, which is being rolled out in manageable segments known as Distribution Areas (DAs).

Currently, the focus is on the southern part of Wasco, specifically DAs 9 and 13, with plans to activate these areas by the end of July. As of now, 89% of the conduit placement in DA 13 has been completed, paving the way for fiber installation and customer activation. This phased approach allows residents to gain access to services sooner rather than waiting for the entire project to finish.

City officials emphasized the importance of restoration efforts following construction. Temporary asphalt patches are being used to ensure safety during the installation process, with permanent restorations planned once the network is confirmed to be operational. The restoration process is designed to minimize disruption, with crews working efficiently to restore streets and sidewalks.

In addition to the fiber installation, the project is also improving the city’s utility mapping. As crews locate existing utilities, they are creating more accurate maps that will benefit future projects and maintenance efforts.

Communication with residents is a priority, with door hangers and signage deployed to keep the community informed about construction activities. Residents are encouraged to reach out with any questions or concerns, with contact information provided on the materials distributed.
