Universal City’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has taken significant steps to enhance local businesses, approving two grants aimed at improving storefronts in the community. During the City Council meeting on July 15, 2025, the EDC awarded $35,000 to Vanessa Flowers, the new owner of Billy Dee's, located at 1805 Pat Booker Road. Flowers has invested nearly $70,000 in renovations over the past five months and expressed optimism that the grant will help attract more customers by enhancing the exterior and parking lot of the establishment.

Flowers highlighted the importance of visibility, stating that many potential customers are unaware of the improvements made inside the bar. She believes that a more appealing exterior will draw in new patrons, which could significantly boost sales. Since reopening, Billy Dee's has already tripled its income, and Flowers is eager to continue this upward trend with the help of the EDC grant.

In addition to the grant for Billy Dee's, the EDC also approved a $50,000 grant for the Barger Law Firm, located at 1201 Pat Booker Road. The firm plans to invest $125,000 in both exterior and interior improvements to their property. Owner Jason Barger expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the firm’s commitment to remaining in Universal City and enhancing their practice environment.
