The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) is gearing up for its second annual Youth Career Event, aimed at introducing local students to career opportunities within the utility industry. Scheduled for September 3, 2025, from 4 to 6 PM, the event seeks to inspire and educate the next generation about stable and rewarding careers available right in Fort Pierce.

Last year's inaugural event attracted over 100 participants, including students, educators, and community leaders. It featured various FPUA departments showcasing entry-level jobs, internships, and apprenticeships. The collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Saint Lucie County was particularly successful, bringing in around 30 students eager to learn about potential career paths.

This year, FPUA plans to enhance the event by expanding the venue to accommodate more attendees and facilitate better interaction. Organizers are also focusing on early recruitment efforts to reach a broader audience, ensuring that more students can benefit from the event. New features include a PowerPoint presentation with employee testimonials and interactive activities designed to engage students more effectively.

FPUA representatives emphasized the importance of building relationships with local youth, noting that while the event is not a hiring fair, it serves as a crucial first step in familiarizing students with the utility sector. The hope is that exposure to various career options will encourage students to consider technical careers, especially as they approach their junior and senior years in high school.
