The Henry County Board of Commissioners convened on July 15, 2025, to discuss significant developments in local infrastructure and services, particularly focusing on the establishment of a new driver services office in Locust Grove and several road widening projects.
The meeting highlighted the upcoming driver services office, which will be located on Tanger Boulevard, aimed at enhancing convenience for residents in the southern part of the county. Tax Commissioner Lee David Curry expressed gratitude to the board for their support in advancing this project, which has been in the works for several years. The new facility will feature three drive-through lanes, responding to the growing demand for accessible services, especially noted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The construction is expected to take approximately 13 months, with funding sourced from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
In addition to the driver services office, the board reviewed three road widening projects. The first project involves the widening of Eastlake Road, which will extend four lanes from Highway 155 to Airline Road, improving access to the Union Grove School cluster. The second project focuses on Patrick Henry Parkway, which will be widened from Eagles Landing Parkway to Jodyko Road, in collaboration with the City of Stockbridge. Both projects are funded through SPLOST, with proposals received and evaluated by county staff.
Commissioner Wilson emphasized the importance of these developments, noting the county's commitment to improving services and infrastructure for its residents. The board unanimously approved the motions for both the driver services office and the road widening projects, marking a significant step forward in enhancing community services and transportation in Henry County.
