Visalia Council approves $500,000 funding extension for Boselli Foundation programs

The Neighborhoods, Community Services, Public Health and Safety Committee of the City of Jacksonville convened on July 14, 2025, to discuss significant changes to the funding agreement with the Boselli Foundation. The meeting primarily focused on extending the current contract and realigning budgetary allocations.

The committee proposed a seven-month extension of the existing agreement, moving the end date from September 30, 2025, to April 30, 2026. The total funding remains at $500,000, but adjustments have been made to how the funds will be allocated. The foundation aims to better align its budget with operational needs, shifting approximately $380,000 towards operating expenses and capital outlay, while reducing personnel costs from previous allocations.

Concerns were raised by committee members regarding the foundation's past compliance with funding requirements. Councilwoman Clark Murray highlighted that the Boselli Foundation had received $228,000 since 2007 but failed to submit required reports on the use of those funds. In response, Jen Veerichoff, the executive director of the Boselli Foundation, explained that the organization had transitioned away from afterschool programs in 2017 and did not anticipate needing further city funding at that time. She acknowledged the oversight regarding the noncompliance status and noted that the foundation has since completed a full financial audit.

The discussion underscored the committee's scrutiny of the foundation's financial management and accountability, as they weigh the merits of extending the funding agreement. The committee will continue to evaluate the implications of these changes and the foundation's commitment to fulfilling its obligations.
