City Council approves heavy truck repair permit for GA Trucking at South Gilbert Road

A significant development proposal took center stage at the Grand Prairie Planning and Zoning meeting on July 14, 2025, as the city reviewed a specific use permit for heavy truck repair and outside storage at 3322 South Gilbert Road. This property, currently zoned for light industrial use, is home to GA Trucking and Trailer Service, which provides essential repair and maintenance services for commercial trucks and trailers.

The proposed permit aims to enhance the existing operations by allowing for on-site storage of vehicles and parts, crucial for the business's functionality. GA Trucking operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM, with an estimated ten vehicles on-site at any given time, including both employee and customer vehicles.

In response to city staff comments, the applicant plans to implement several improvements, including new fencing, parking lot enhancements, a dumpster enclosure, and a commercial drive approach. These upgrades are designed to comply with the city’s automotive-related business regulations and improve the overall site layout.

The development review committee has recommended approval of the permit, contingent upon adherence to the proposed site plan and specific conditions, such as the construction of a dumpster enclosure measuring at least 12 feet by 12 feet and concrete paving in all parking areas. Notably, the city sent out 30 notices regarding the proposal, with no opposition received.

This development not only supports local business growth but also aligns with the city’s industrial zoning objectives, promising to bolster economic activity in the area while maintaining compliance with community standards.
