Collin County leaders discuss innovative transit solutions for member and nonmember cities

Collin County officials are exploring new transit options to enhance connectivity and service for its rapidly growing communities. During a recent meeting of the Collin County Toll Road Authority, discussions centered on the potential for McKinney and other non-member cities to access rail services without the full membership requirements traditionally associated with the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system.

Currently, McKinney lacks a rail station, but officials noted that DART has removed the requirement for cities to become members to utilize rail services. This change allows McKinney to negotiate a contract for rail service as a customer, rather than a member, which could provide more flexibility in service options. However, concerns were raised about the implications of offering discounted services to non-member cities, which could disincentivize existing member cities that pay full rates.
