City Finance Department unveils preliminary budget using zero-based budgeting approach

Denton's Public Utilities Board is gearing up for a significant shift in its budgeting approach for the upcoming fiscal year, as outlined in a recent meeting held on July 14, 2025. The board discussed the preliminary utility budgets for fiscal year 2025-2026, emphasizing a new zero-based budgeting methodology aimed at enhancing financial accountability and resource allocation.

During the meeting, Finance Department representative Matt Hamilton explained that this year’s budgeting process will start from scratch, rather than rolling over last year’s budget as has been customary.
