The Christina School District's recent Board of Education meeting highlighted several key initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement and community support. A significant focus was placed on the success of the recent statewide "Belonging Conference," which brought together educators from various districts, including Christina, Appoquinimink, and Brandywine, as well as schools from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The conference emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment for both students and staff, laying the groundwork for future learning and growth. Planning is already underway for next year's event, which aims to expand its reach and impact.

In addition to the conference, the district celebrated the retirement of over 60 dedicated staff members, who collectively contributed more than 1,300 years of service to the Christina School District. This acknowledgment reflects the district's appreciation for the commitment and hard work of its educators.

The meeting also announced the launch of the summer program, which began on July 7 and will run through August 7. This year, the district is offering 11 unique programs across 14 school sites, with 2,347 students enrolled. To keep students engaged during the summer, elementary students received workbooks filled with activities, while middle and high school students were assigned summer reading projects.

Furthermore, the district is providing free breakfast and lunch to all children aged 18 and under at designated schools throughout the summer. This initiative aims to ensure that students have access to nutritious meals during the break, with no application required.

Lastly, the Christina School District expressed gratitude to Giant Foods for selecting them as a recipient of their "Nourishing Our Youth" program, further supporting the district's commitment to student well-being and community engagement. These initiatives reflect the district's ongoing efforts to foster a supportive and enriching environment for all students and families.
