Williamson County first responders save 13 lives during severe flooding crisis

The Williamson County Commissioners Court held a special session on July 11, 2025, to discuss the recent flooding crisis that impacted the region, particularly focusing on the coordinated emergency response efforts. During the session, officials recounted the swift actions taken to assist those affected by the flooding, which began around July 4. The county's emergency services, including fire, police, and volunteers, mobilized quickly to provide aid. Notably, a Blackhawk helicopter from the Texas National Guard played a crucial role in evacuating 13 children and young adults from Hope House, a residential facility for individuals with profound disabilities, during a critical moment when floodwaters threatened their safety.

Sheriff Matt Linden detailed the extensive efforts made by local and state responders, noting that approximately 400 personnel were actively engaged in rescue operations at various times, with the number of responders reaching nearly 2,000 throughout the crisis. Despite the successful rescue operations, the meeting acknowledged the tragic loss of three lives due to the flooding, with officials expressing condolences for the victims and their families. The sheriff pointed out that some of these fatalities could have been avoided if individuals had heeded warnings about driving into flooded areas.

The session concluded with a recognition of the overwhelming support from neighboring counties and volunteer organizations, including the United Cajun Navy, which provided additional resources and manpower.
