Tom Baneski details cell tower plans at Primrose Park for city council approval

Fulshear's Planning and Zoning Commission has taken a significant step towards enhancing telecommunications infrastructure with the approval of a new cell tower site within Primrose Park. The designated area, measuring 75 by 75 feet, will host a 150-foot monopole tower, which includes a 4-foot lightning rod, bringing the total height to 154 feet. This development is expected to improve cellular service in the region, with plans for construction to begin as early as August or September 2025, pending city council approval.

Tom Baneski, Senior Vice President of Diamond Communications, outlined the project during the meeting, emphasizing that the site has already met all public notice requirements and is compliant with Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations. The tower will also facilitate colocation opportunities for additional antennas, further enhancing service capacity.

The commission discussed the aesthetics and security of the site, particularly the fencing options. While an 8-foot chain link fence with barbed wire was initially proposed, there was a consensus among members that a more visually appealing board-on-board fence would better complement the new park's design. This decision reflects a commitment to maintaining the park's aesthetic while ensuring security measures are in place.

The timeline for the project indicates that, if approved, the building permit process will take approximately 30 days, with the goal of having the tower operational by early 2026. The commission's discussions highlighted the importance of balancing functionality with community standards, ensuring that the new infrastructure aligns with the park's overall design and purpose.
