Berkeley County officials have approved several salary adjustments and promotions for local firefighters and law enforcement personnel during the commission meeting held on July 10, 2025. These changes reflect a commitment to recognizing years of service and enhancing the compensation of dedicated public servants.

Among the notable decisions, Fire Chief Martin Roberts announced step increases for various firefighters. Richard Petri will see his salary rise from $78,447 to $80,801, while John Graham's salary will increase from $67,496 to $69,205. Additionally, Stephen Sawyer's salary will change from $84,784 to $87,169, all effective July 1, 2025.

In law enforcement, several deputies received step increases as well. Corporal Joshua Shockey and Corporal Chelsea McBee will both see their salaries increase from $70,756 to $74,043, effective July 30, 2025. Deputy Sean Donegan's salary will rise from $67,668 to $70,801, while Deputy Chad Jones will see an increase from $76,205 to $77,629. Notably, Lawrence Meeks has been promoted from Deputy 2 to Corporal, with a salary adjustment from $59,446 to $70,756, effective June 26, 2025.

The meeting also addressed personnel changes, including resignations from Deputy Account Administrator Chad Weinbrenner and Director of Emergency Communications Jennifer Swisher, among others.

In addition to these personnel matters, the commission approved the minutes from previous meetings, ensuring transparency and accountability in their proceedings.
