Planning Commission approves Hampton Inn and Suites project despite neighbor objections

The Lexington Planning Commission convened on July 10, 2025, to discuss several subdivision items, including a notable development plan for a Hampton Inn and Suites and a final development plan for the Marlboro Manor Subdivision.

The meeting primarily focused on the Hampton Inn and Suites project, which had previously received approval but returned for a minor footprint change of two feet. The change was made to enhance green space, and officials confirmed that there would be no alterations to water quality features. Despite some objections from local residents, the commission noted that no formal complaints had been raised regarding compliance with zoning ordinances or subdivision regulations. The staff and the Technical Review Committee recommended approval, emphasizing that the plan met all necessary requirements.

Commissioner Wilson raised concerns about potential future developments on the site, specifically regarding fire safety and access. Staff reassured that any future projects would need to comply with fire safety regulations, which would be assessed at the time of development.

Following discussions, a motion was made to approve the Hampton Inn and Suites project, which passed with a vote of 7 in favor, 1 against, and 1 recusal.

The commission also reviewed the Marlboro Manor Subdivision, which includes plans for 29 single-family homes, 26 townhomes, four multifamily structures, and one senior living facility. The applicant requested a waiver for land subdivision regulations concerning an alley. This plan is located at the intersection of Radcliffe Road and Haggard Lane.
