Yolo Nursery seeks cannabis use permit for expanded cultivation and distribution

The Yolo County Planning Commission meeting on July 10, 2025, focused on a significant cannabis use permit application submitted by Yolo Nursery LLC. This application seeks to expand cannabis cultivation operations at their site, which has been active since 2017 under a previous license held by Premium Ace Nursery.

Yolo Nursery's application includes plans to terminate the existing license and transition cultivation activities to their entity. The proposal outlines the addition of one acre of outdoor cannabis canopy, which will expand the current operations footprint to approximately three acres. The nursery also plans to construct a new 1,800 square foot processing building and a 240 square foot accessible restroom.

Currently, Yolo Nursery employs three full-time staff and utilizes five full-time and five part-time contractors for harvesting. If the permit is approved, the nursery anticipates increasing its workforce to ten full-time employees and up to 15 contracted laborers for harvesting and trimming.

The project is subject to various regulatory controls, including an upgrade to energy standards and the implementation of an odor control plan certified by a professional engineer. Security measures, including the installation of cameras and alarms, are also part of the proposal. The nursery is required to maintain the site in good repair and provide contact information to nearby property owners.

The Planning Commission is expected to hold a public hearing to gather comments on the project and determine its consistency with environmental regulations. Staff recommendations include approving the cannabis use permit and allowing the applicant to apply for a cultivation license of up to two acres and a distribution license. This decision could significantly impact local employment and the cannabis industry in Yolo County.
