Brownsburg Council approves $3M upgrades for wastewater treatment and lift stations

The Brownsburg Town Council made significant strides in wastewater management during their July 10, 2025, meeting, approving multiple critical infrastructure projects aimed at upgrading aging facilities.

The council unanimously approved a bid of $2,955,000 from Ottenwheeler for the rehabilitation of oxidation ditches at the wastewater treatment plant, originally installed in 1999. These ditches are essential for the treatment process but have deteriorated significantly, with broken rotors and shafts necessitating immediate action. The project also includes replacing the outdated HVAC system and motor control cabinets, which are over three decades old, ensuring more efficient operations moving forward.

In a related discussion, the council greenlit another project, awarding a contract for $1,245,000 to Ottenwheeler for improvements to the biosolids processing unit, which has been in service since 1995. The upgrades will enhance automation and efficiency, addressing the aging equipment that has exceeded its expected lifespan.

Additionally, the council approved a $3,070,881 bid from HIS Contractors for the conversion of five lift stations, some dating back to the 1970s. This project aims to replace outdated dry pit lift stations, which pose safety hazards for maintenance personnel, and improve the capacity of facilities, particularly at Arbuckle Park, where increased usage has outgrown the existing infrastructure.
