San Francisco Police Commission begins search for new chief with Ralph Anderson Associates

The San Francisco Police Commission has initiated the search for a new chief of police, following the approval of a contract with Ralph Anderson and Associates, a firm with extensive experience in police recruitments. During a recent meeting, Human Resources Director Carol Eisen outlined the process, emphasizing the firm’s successful history, including their previous recruitment of Chief Scott, who served one of the longest tenures in the city’s history.

Eisen confirmed that the firm is prepared to meet with the commission as early as next week to discuss their approach and answer any questions. The commission is tasked with identifying candidates and forwarding their recommendations to the mayor. Eisen reassured the commission of the firm’s capability, citing their familiarity with the complexities of police leadership in large urban environments.

Commissioner Elias raised concerns about the selection process, seeking transparency for the public regarding how Ralph Anderson was chosen over other firms. Eisen explained that the selection followed a rigorous process, including a request for qualifications that attracted 13 firms, of which four were deemed qualified. Ultimately, Ralph Anderson was selected based on their extensive experience in police chief recruitments.

The Director of the Department of Police Accountability (DPA), Executive Director Henderson, reported on the growing caseloads and the challenges faced in managing these complaints effectively.
