Planning report shows increased applications and complaints in June

During the recent Nye County - Pahrump Regional Planning Commission meeting held on July 9, 2025, officials reviewed the planning applications and building permits for June, revealing notable trends in local development and code compliance.

In June, the commission received a total of 228 planning applications, marking an increase of one application compared to the previous month. A total of 143 applications were processed, which is 22 more than in May. Over the past year, from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, the county has received 2,541 planning applications, a slight rise from the 2,404 applications recorded in the same period the previous year.

The meeting also highlighted the status of code compliance complaints. A total of 576 new complaints were filed during the year, with June alone seeing 62 new complaints, three fewer than the previous month. The commission reported that 53 complaints were closed in June, which is a significant increase of 17 from May. As of the end of June, there are 386 active complaints in the county.

In terms of building permits, the commission issued 18 single-family residential permits, an increase of 14 from the previous month. Multifamily permits rose slightly to seven, while commercial permits remained steady at 12. Overall, the total number of permits issued across all categories was 155, which is 16 fewer than in May. The total inspections conducted for all categories reached 474, a decrease of 42 from the previous month.

These figures reflect ongoing growth and development in Nye County, as well as the challenges of managing code compliance. The increase in building permits, particularly for single-family homes, indicates a continued demand for housing in the region. The commission's efforts to address code compliance complaints will be crucial in maintaining community standards as development progresses. Moving forward, the commission will likely focus on balancing growth with effective oversight to ensure sustainable development in Pahrump and surrounding areas.
