Hooksett Town Council accepts $1,000 donation for Police Department and nominates new members

The Hooksett Town Council convened on July 9, 2025, to address several agenda items, including donations, nominations, and public input. The meeting began with a motion to accept a $1,000 donation from Yolanda Van Zanten to the Hooksett Police Department, which was unanimously approved.

Following the donation, the council moved to nominations and appointments, where Cathy McClain was nominated and appointed as an alternate to the Cemetery Commission, with her term set to expire on June 30, 2026. The council emphasized the importance of ensuring that individuals present for appointed positions are acknowledged during meetings.

The discussion then shifted to the need for additional members on the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA). Council members noted the necessity for at least two alternates and suggested that a news item be posted on the town's website to encourage community participation in filling these positions.

The council also reviewed the minutes from the previous meeting on June 25, 2025. Amendments were made to correct the attendance record and clarify the status of a nomination for Jared Williams, who was mistakenly listed as an alternate instead of a regular member of the planning board. The amended minutes were subsequently approved.

Public input was minimal, with no residents speaking during the designated time. The council encouraged residents to reach out to the town administrator with any future agenda items they wish to discuss.

In a notable subcommittee report, Vice Chair Sullivan proposed recognizing Robert Schroeder for his 28 years of service in preserving Roby's Country Store, Hooksett's only national historic landmark. The council expressed support for this recognition and agreed to schedule it for a future meeting.

The meeting concluded with a motion to enter non-public session under RSA 91-A:3, II, to discuss confidential matters. The council members voted in favor, and the meeting was set to adjourn following the non-public session.
