Pahrump Planning Commission discusses growth issues and elects new leadership

Concerns over rapid growth and infrastructure strain dominated the Nye County - Pahrump Regional Planning Commission meeting on July 9, 2025. During public comments, a resident highlighted the long-standing development agreement from 2006, which has not addressed the essential infrastructure needs despite the county's ongoing growth. "You continue growth at a reckless speed," the resident stated, urging the commission to prioritize basic needs over unchecked development. The call for managed growth was echoed by another speaker, who suggested that developers should provide community amenities, such as parks or community centers, in exchange for building permits.

The meeting also included the election of officers for the upcoming fiscal year, with Pam Hayden continuing as chair and John O'Brien elected as vice chair. The commission approved the minutes from the previous meeting and discussed agenda modifications, including the continuation of two items that require further public notification.
