Bay County imposes liens for property clean-up costs on multiple violators

The Bay County Code Magistrate Hearing held on July 9, 2025, focused on imposing liens for property violations and the costs associated with abatement. The meeting addressed multiple properties, with significant fines and enforcement actions discussed.

The first case involved a property at 7139 Brett Road, where the respondent failed to comply with a previous order. The magistrate ordered the respondent to pay $700 in fines, plus interest, for noncompliance. Additionally, the cost of abatement, totaling $300, will also incur interest and become a lien on the property and any other owned assets in Bay County.

Another property at 8127 Cluster Road was discussed, where the respondent did not appear at the hearing. The magistrate imposed a $1,000 fine for noncompliance and ordered the respondent to pay $3,912 for the costs of abatement. This amount, along with the fine, will also become a lien against the property.

A third case at 7325 Helmage Avenue followed a similar pattern, with the magistrate finding the respondent in violation and imposing a $1,000 fine. The cost of abatement for this property was determined to be $5,273, which will also be recorded as a lien.

In all cases, the magistrate emphasized that the costs and fines would constitute liens on the respective properties, allowing the county to collect these amounts through the Uniform Assessment Collection Act. The next compliance hearing is scheduled for August 13, 2025, where further enforcement actions may be discussed.
