Kim Pettit opposes Kerrville zoning change citing neighborhood traffic concerns

Concerns over a proposed zoning change in San Antonio's North Central Thousand Oaks neighborhood dominated the recent Planning Commission meeting, with residents voicing strong opposition due to potential traffic hazards and neighborhood compatibility issues.

Kim Pettit, president of the North Central Thousand Oaks Neighborhood Association, highlighted the dangers posed by the development's location at a major entrance to the residential area, which comprises around 2,500 homes. She noted that the nearby Tommy John's tailgate restaurant was unaware of the proposed changes, raising questions about community engagement in the planning process.

Pettit emphasized that the development could exacerbate traffic issues on Jones Baltimore, a heavily trafficked road, particularly at the intersection with Oak Line. She suggested alternative uses for the land, such as expanding McAllister Park or integrating it into the entertainment area of Tommy John's, to better align with the neighborhood's character.

The meeting underscored the community's commitment to preserving the residential nature of Thousand Oaks and ensuring that any developments consider the safety and well-being of its residents. As discussions continue, the Planning Commission will need to weigh these concerns against the proposed changes.
