Board approves $150K fence upgrades for Irvin Park and ADA sidewalk at Oak Ridge Park

Balch Springs officials have taken significant steps to enhance local parks and recreational facilities during the recent EDC Type B Board meeting held on July 9, 2025. The board approved funding for two key projects aimed at improving accessibility and aesthetics in the community.

The first major decision was to allocate up to $150,000 for the construction of upgraded fencing at Irvin Park, located at 4208 and 4400 Shepherd Lane. This project will include the installation of green-coated fencing and possibly netting for sports fields, moving away from the standard silver chain link option. The board emphasized the importance of creating a visually appealing environment for park users, drawing on past successful upgrades at other facilities.

In a second initiative, the board approved funding not to exceed $10,860 for the construction of an ADA-compliant sidewalk around the newly renovated restroom at Oak Ridge Park, located at 14201 Spring Oaks Drive. This project aims to enhance accessibility for all visitors, ensuring that the restroom is easily reachable from various park areas, including the splash pad. The sidewalk will connect to existing pathways, contributing to a more cohesive park layout.
