Council approves ordinance for one rooster per parcel in city regulations

A significant decision emerged from the Brooksville Planning and Zoning meeting on July 9, 2025, as city officials unanimously approved an ordinance allowing residents to keep one rooster per parcel under specific conditions. This amendment to the existing ordinance, which previously permitted chickens, aims to enhance local agricultural practices while addressing community concerns.

David Hainley presented the request, highlighting that the new regulation would restrict residents to one rooster per acre. The commission is now considering the best path forward, either by continuing with a special use exemption or pursuing a full rezoning to align with the shelter's needs.
