DeKalb County graduates explore food insecurity through community initiative

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners meeting on July 8, 2025, celebrated the achievements of the recent graduates from the Class of 2025. A total of 12 graduates were recognized for their accomplishments, including Tyler Washington, Xavier Pavel Dodson, and Gavin Matthews Conaway, among others. The event highlighted the contributions of chaperones and mentors, including Tiffany Moore and Corine Matthews, who supported the graduates during their recent trip.

Troy Vincent, representing the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County, expressed gratitude to Commissioner Michelle Long Spears for her vision in organizing the event. He emphasized the importance of the trip, which focused on educating the students about food insecurities and the value of serving those in need. Vincent noted that this initiative was just the beginning of many future opportunities aimed at fostering leadership and teamwork among the youth.

The meeting concluded with a call for applause for the graduates and supporters, marking a significant moment for the community as it invests in the development of its young leaders.
