DeKalb County approves plush flamingo program for fire victims

A new initiative aimed at supporting children affected by fires was approved during the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners meeting on July 8, 2025. The board unanimously voted to authorize 23 Domingos LLC to use DeKalb County fire symbols on its website and to distribute 200 plush flamingos annually for the next decade.

Commissioner Terry praised the collaboration between the board and the IRPS committee, highlighting the initiative's potential to provide comfort to children displaced by fires. “Having these plush toys available on every fire engine will be a nice benefit to the county and the responding firefighters,” he stated. The plush flamingos will serve as a small gesture of support for young victims during distressing times.

The meeting also addressed procedural concerns regarding the approval of meeting minutes, with a call for improved communication to ensure timely execution of necessary documents. The board concluded the session with a motion to adjourn, setting the stage for their next Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for the following Tuesday at 9 AM.
