Houston Council honors Memorial Hermann TMC on 100th anniversary with proclamation

Houston City Council celebrated a significant milestone during its recent meeting, proclaiming July 8, 2025, as Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center Day in honor of the hospital's 100th anniversary. Council member Kamen led the recognition, highlighting the profound impact Memorial Hermann TMC has had on the Houston community since its establishment in 1925.

The proclamation acknowledged the hospital's evolution from a single facility to a cornerstone of healthcare in Houston, now serving as a Level 1 trauma center and a primary teaching hospital for UT Health. Mayor John Whitmire emphasized the hospital's critical role in providing emergency and trauma care to over 40,000 patients annually, as well as its contributions to medical advancements, including being the first hospital in Texas to receive penicillin.

Dr. David Callender, CEO of Memorial Hermann, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the hospital's commitment to serving all Houstonians, regardless of their circumstances.
