Derby City Council approves major infrastructure improvements and annexation plans

During the Derby City Council meeting on July 8, 2025, a series of significant decisions were made that will impact local infrastructure and community services.

One of the key highlights was the approval of a contract for $1,160,277 aimed at enhancing water, stormwater, and sanitary sewer systems in the Fox Fire Addition Phase 2, located adjacent to the public works facility. This project is expected to improve essential services for residents in the area.

Additionally, the council approved a School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement with USD 260 for the upcoming school year, maintaining five SROs with a funding split of 60% from the school district and 40% from the city. This partnership will see the city contributing $209,320 towards the program, ensuring continued safety and support for students.

In response to urgent needs, the council authorized an emergency purchase of a lift station pump replacement at Warren Riverview Park for $28,674. The pump, originally installed in 1998, was taken out of service due to operational issues, highlighting the importance of timely maintenance and upgrades to city infrastructure.

Other notable actions included the approval of a $37,362 agreement for the 2025 Sidewalk Connection Project, which will link the Stone Creek neighborhood to Derby North Middle School, and the final steps for the annexation of a 12.8-acre tract of land for a future water treatment plant.

The council also addressed a consent annexation request for a 50.8-acre tract of land, currently used for farming, with plans for future development into a two-family residential duplex subdivision.

These decisions reflect the council's commitment to improving community infrastructure and services, ensuring Derby continues to grow and meet the needs of its residents.
