Colleyville Council adjusts budget for officer pay and approves new leadership roles

During the recent Colleyville Crime Control and Prevention District Board meeting held on July 8, 2025, significant discussions centered around the funding and future of School Resource Officers (SROs) and the election of new board leadership.

A key topic was the financial implications of the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, which is set to expire in 2030. Board members expressed concerns about the potential budget shortfall in 2031 when TIF revenues will no longer be available to support the SRO program. Currently, the TIF generates approximately $900,000 in revenue, which offsets $757,000 in expenditures. However, without the TIF, the board anticipates needing to find alternative funding sources, likely through increased tax revenue, to maintain the SROs. This situation has prompted discussions with the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) to prepare for the financial transition.

In addition to budgetary concerns, the board approved a resolution to amend the budget, adjusting revenues to $3,790,000 and expenditures to $4,162,684. This amendment includes a $50,000 allocation aimed at addressing pay compression for officers, which is crucial for retention, particularly in the early years of service.

The meeting also included the election of new leadership for the board. Director Bobby Lindemuth was elected as president, and Director Brandy Elder was appointed as vice president for a one-year term. The board unanimously supported these appointments, reflecting a collaborative spirit among members.
