Public Works Director Harder reviews new Durapatcher trucks for pothole repairs

Amarillo's City Council meeting on July 8, 2025, highlighted significant advancements in the city's road maintenance efforts, particularly through the introduction of new Durapatcher trucks designed to efficiently address potholes. Public Works Director Alan Harder presented an overview of the trucks' operations, emphasizing their effectiveness since their implementation in May.

The Durapatcher trucks utilize a unique system that allows for quick and efficient pothole repairs. They can clean, fill, and seal potholes with minimal disruption to traffic, completing over 2,000 patches on streets and 700 in alleys within a short timeframe. Harder noted that the trucks have already demonstrated their value, achieving a record of 146 potholes patched in a single day, a stark contrast to the 20 to 30 typically managed by traditional methods. In addition to the Durapatcher trucks, the council discussed ongoing safety measures, including the use of follow trucks equipped with arrow boards to alert drivers of road work. Future plans include installing crash attenuators on the trucks to further enhance safety for both workers and motorists.
